sheungwan hong kong, or in Chinese - 上环, meaning the Upper Ring, is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Hong Kong Island and one that has seen many transformations throughout the years. On this particular day with no particular list in mind for what to do in sheung wan hong kong, I roamed around to see and discovered a few hidden gems.
Taipo Hong Kong is a beautiful neighborhood in the New Territories. In addition to the taipo waterfront park hong kong, the area offers so much more. We started out this particular day with a lovely hike at Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve, an amazing lunch at Billow Seafood Bar & Bistro, and capped the day with a lovely walk around Tai Po Town Center with Grandma's Tofu Pudding.
How to get to Tai Long Wan: from Sai Kung, there are numerous ways to get to Tai Long Wan. Once at Sai Kung, you can take a bus or taxi to Sai Wan Pavilion. From there, you can hike 2.5km which takes around 30 minutes to tai long wan. There are also a few vendors offering boat rides to Tai Long Wan at Sai Kung Public Pier. Beach umbrella rentals available at the restaurant.

This was one of the longer hikes we did in Hong Kong. It’s not very difficult if you pace yourself but it does take up about 3 to 3-and-half hours. The best part about this hike is you get to see so many different scenery and terrain ranging from the Hong Kong Island skyline, a culturally significant rock (the Lover’s Rock), and the yellow dunes along with the manmade lakes from the reservoir. If you are lucky, you may even get to see wild boars along the way like we did!
Relaxing vibes at pui o beach in the little town of pui o is what you will get from doing the mui wo to pui o hike! A neighborhood in Lantau Island, Mui O and Pui O offers multiple hiking options. To get from mui wo to pui o, being the mui wo hiking at the mui wo ferry pier.
Follow 2 bus route by boarding at Shun Tak, next to the Hong Kong Sheung Wan Ferry Terminal. The bus routes in Hong Kong are so extensive and diverse, including operators like city bus; this particular route, operated by new world bus goes from Sheng Wan to Sai Wan Ho on Hong Kong Island.
Amazing hong kong bike routes exist in the New Territories and one of my favorites is the scenic Bike Ride from Shatin to Taipo and Taipo to Tai Mei Tuk. One of the most scenic hong kong bicycle routes, this pathway is also a family friendly outdoor activities to a wonderful way to spend a day outdoors.
Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir, like many of Hong Kong's reservoirs is a great location for hiking. How to go to Tai Tam Reservoir: bus or taxi. Bus 14 from Sai Wan Ho MTR station towards Stanley. Get off at Tai Tam Reservoir North Stop. Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir Dam.
Hidden gem in the Chung Hom Kok, located on the southwest of Hong Kong Island. Get off at Chung Hom Kok Beach either by taxi or #40 minibus, and walk south towards Chung Hom Kok Park, which is about 1.8km one way. The hike is relatively flat and manageable if you are looking to get it movin’ but not struggle or have a heat stroke in this hot humid summer weather!
Oakes Day Lillies Farm was such a breathtaking property. The blooming day lilies in their variation of gold, orange, maroon like rays of the setting sun splashed across the young crips greenery of the rolling hills. The farm also featured a small pond; next to it a large willow tree that draped its veins, blowing so gently across the summer breeze. Far back behind the sun flower fields sits a freshly painted white farm house that overlooks the entire property. Complimented by the cotton candy like clouds plopped against the crisp blue skies truly portrays the farm to such of an Impressionist painting.
Waterfall Bay Park in the southwest corner of Hong Kong Island is a local hidden gem. Near Cyberport Hong Kong, it's the perfect place for a leisure walk and afternoon. Waterfall Bay Park Hong Kong. Waterfall Bay Park Pok Fu Lam.
Foshan, home to multiple kungfu masters, is just about 35km away from it’s mega neighbor, Guangzhou. The highspeed train from foshan to hong kong or vice versa is only about an hour. In fact, it's easier to get off at the Guangzhou South station.
Shing Mun Reservoir, like many of Hong Kong reservoirs, are great hiking locations. The Shing Mun Reservoir Hike is one of the most memorable ones because the place is full of wild monkeys!

The goldfish market in hong kong is about a 2 block street where you can find all types of goldfish, turtles, aquamarine pets and the equipment and fodder needed.
choi hung estate is known for its instagrammable basketball court. However, its location next to kwun tong makes it also worth your time to visit the chi lin nunnery and kwun tong promenade. If you are down for a walk, the entire 6km enjoyable walk can take you from kwun tong mtr.
Zhaoqing located in Guangdong Province China is easily accessible as a hong kong day trip or hong kong weekend trip. Licha Village also known as Bagua Village is definitely worth exploring when visiting Zhaoqing.
A must visit in Hong Kong is the tai o fishing village and big buddha on lantau island. Also known as the tian tan buddha or big buddha in hong kong its grandiose and serene surroundings of po lin monastery with majestic views are unbeatable. tai o village, sometimes dubbed as the venice of hong kong where the houses are constructed on wooden stilts are uniquely to the landscape of lantau island.
Xiamen, a beautiful coastal town on China's southern coast was one of the first major cities I visited as a little girl. Unfortunately, the beginning of our trip to Xiamen was also the beginning stages of the global pandemic...usually vibrant, the city was a ghost town and there was no xiamen nightlife during our stay.
